The RYA have made a submission to ISAF for consideration at their Annual Conference in November, proposing a change to the Youth Classes sailed at the ISAF Youth Worlds to take effect from 2009. The proposal is to replace the Open Multihull Class with an Open two person high performanceDinghy. This could be good news for the 29er and 420 classes helping to maintain some stability, but the Cat sailors are not happy. See Yachts and Yachting forum - multihull section, and add your comments to the debate. Click link to see proposal.
Next weekend gives 29er Sailors the choice of a Eurocuo event in Athens, or a Grand Prix open at Thorpe Bay. Tough choice - see events page...

The Holt sponsored Tide Ride was sailed at HISC on 15 & 16 September by boats of Int 14, B14, RS800, RS 700, Laser 4000, and 29er (largest entry - 37 boats). The race format of qualifying series, semi-final, and final race produced a 3-way tie on points split in favour of Q-series winners Francis Peters & Stevie Wilson.Click title above for full 29er results, scroll right for finals.
Check out the Events page for information on the Holt Tide Ride, and 29er class Open Meeting, both at HISC in the next few weeks.
A gentle misty dawn greeted the fleet for the final day of racing. The mist soon burned off to produce a proper summers day with a 8 - 10 knot breeze from the North West.Bleddyn Mon & Tom Humpreys made sure of their overall win with a 1st and a 2nd on the last day. Max Richardson & Alex Groves won the other race of the day to ensure their second place. In the Silver fleet Emma Porteous & Tom Morris continued to dominate the racing taking first place by 13 points. For full results click title or go to Events/Results page.
Both fleets achieved 3 races, a bit of a mix on the wind front. The first race was held in a good 18 knots, the second it died away to a 5 knot crawler which made it tough going in the swell that was left from the earlier wind. The final race brought the wind back and allowed the fleet to cool down after the 2nd race drifter. The Northerly wind and the big waves that came with it proved a challenge for many of the new teams but local boys Beddyn Mon & Tom Humphreys and Huw Humpreys & Max Todd still head up the leader board with Sarah Martin & Ed Chapman in third.
The 29er Nationals are following on from the 49ers in Llandudno Bay. Once the 49ers had cleared the race track the 29ers launched into a glorious increasing Northerly breeze. It was tough for some of the fleet but the top teams revelled in the conditions.Racing in 2 flights the 56 boats got 2 races each. Local teams lead the way with Beddyn Mon & Tom Humphreys leading followed by Huw Humpreys & Max Todd.

The 29er Open European Championships was concluded on Saturday 11 August in Gottskar. Following approximately 70 starts during the championships the past week, the all women"s team Emily Dellenbaugh and Briana Provancha from USA were the winners of this open championship.
Once again light winds and shifting breezes proved a challenge for both competitors and Race officers. After 2 days of finals the Gold fleet have sailed all their scheduled races while the Silver and Bronze are still a race down. A mixture of sunshine and showers playing havoc with the wind has meant long days on the water for many of the sailors. In the Gold fleet the USA team and current ISAF world champions Dellenbaugh & Provancha lead the fleet with GBRs Frances Peters & Hannah Diamond in second. The qualification series has now been completed and the fleet is now in to the finals sailing in Gold, Silver and Bronze fleets.James Peters and Olle Spensley-Corfield from Great Britain head up the leader board going into the finals with the Danish Youth World Champions Sogaard & Krisensen in Second.Full results on the event web site.
