After a cracking start to the season at WPNSA, the 29er Sailing Calendar continues with a full programme for the rest of the year as follows:

29er Harken GP 1 – New pairing hits the top at WPNSA

By Anna Sturrock and Jo Harris

43 boats rocked up to WPNSA for the first Grand Prix of the series on 23rd/24th September. The fleet launched into the harbour and were welcomed by a good breeze, with 4 races completed promptly and with ease on Saturday. Freddie Peters and Elliot Wells dominated the day with two bullets and two more top 5s to take the overnight lead.

Are you in an all girl team? If so, the class has now arranged for some all girls training, run by female coaches, targeted towards female sailors with female specific techniques and setups. This is open to any all girls crew whatever your experience level, from first time in the boat to front of the fleet race level.

The 2018 Major Event Instructions ('MEIs') have now been published.

The 2017 Harken 29er Grand Prix Series is now open for entries. The first event is at WPNSA on 23rd/24th September.

Full details are in the Notice of Series which you can download by clicking on this link.

(This will be my final post .... Paul)

At the International 29er Council meeting at Long Beach a decision was made to set up a new Technical Committee to look at Strategic changes to the boat (ie carbon mast) and the UK Class have proposed someone for that committee. This Committee is expected to report back in summer 2018 (I think ?) so while the carbon rig is being discussed it seems unlikely to happen in the very near term. More likely in a 1-3 year horizon and perhaps not at all - there remain plenty of technical and financial issues to deal with - nonetheless the idea is being investigated fully.

The UK 29er Class Association is pleased to announce that Arthur and Cheryl Allen have been granted an RYA Community Award in the Lifetime Commitment category.

The Class Association is pleased to announce the dates for Open Training sessions in 2017-18.  There are eight training weekends from September to March open to members wishing to improve their sailing over the winter months.  These sessions are open to all and aim to cater for sailors with the full range of abilities and experience.

There are discounts available for booking multiple sessions so look ahead and plan your winter training schedule!
