Nationals Day 2 - Hayling Island Sailing Club
A steady but gentle 8 - 10 knots from the south east kicked in at lunch time and the fleet was sent out into Hayling bay and did 4 to catch up yesterdays lost race. Tide was one of the biggest influences over the tactics as well as the mark rounding. Many teams not used to current found themselves drifting into the marks having miss-judged their line. Much spinning was seen at the windward mark! The fleet has now finished its qualification series and the next 2 days will be the final races, the cut at 25 is always harsh but it looks like the final Gold fleet has all the right teams in it. Paul Brotherton & Mari Shepherd are top of the leaderboard followed by Sarah Martin & Nicola Groves who had an outstanding day winning all 4 races in their flight. Silja Lehitnen & Scott Babage from Finland had a steady day to end up lying 3rd while Frances Peters & Kate Sparkes enjoyed the light winds to pull up to 4th.
