Following an incident of entanglement at the 29er World Championships in Long Beach the Class President set up a panel to review the incident and one of the first recommendations from that review was that the Class Rules be changed to make it mandatory for all sailors to carry a waterproof / Solas whistle. Barry Johnson has now got this rule change through World Sailing and it was published yesterday and effective yesterday.
The UK Class must abide by the class rules. Therefore we would ask that all sailors attempt to comply. However, given the short notice, the penalty for infringement this weekend will be limited to a warning. The rule will be enforced at future events and therefore all sailors should ensure that they have a whistle on a lanyard in their buoyancy aids in the future.
